Main Purpose of Role

Mission Statement

Development and maintenance of PYL’s Health, Safety & Environmental Management System (HSEMS) to ensure that it meets the requirements of our undertakings and drives our continuous, cultural improvements journey.

Attitudes and Behaviours

Effectively managing health, safety & environment is not just about having a HSEMS. The success of whatever process or system is in place still hinges on the attitudes and behaviours of people in the organisation and our 'safety culture'.

Ultimately our goal is to continue to provide world class products with a ‘can do’ attitude, maturing our outlook towards ‘can do safely’ within every department and area of the business.

Responsibilities/ Tasks

The Head of Health, Safety & Environmental Assurance & LFE will primarily oversee; the delivery and efficacy of the HSEMS through a comprehensive audit programme, make informed improvements of the same and provide an effective overview of LFE through our accident/ incident reporting platform.

  • Develop Health and Safety & Environmental documents which are functional and concise, with the emphasis on their effectiveness rather than sheer volume of paperwork.

  • Embedding the formal documentation of our HSEMS ensuring that it aligns with the human elements of its implementation. Driving a focus away from systems towards a risk awareness and behaviours emphasis.

  • Independently assuring ‘sentencing’ of accidents and near misses to ensure that any control measures identified are proportionate to risk and likelihood of harm/ damage occurring

  • Independently ensuring that lessons are learned and communicated, to the relevant internal and external stakeholders, from previous accident, incidents and near misses so that identical or similar events arising from our undertakings can be prevented in the future

  • Support the management and delivery of the company’s ISO 45001/ 14001-2015 accreditation by development and maintenance of the company’s HSEMS
